Sewer Blockages

A blockage is a restriction in the pipe from either service or structural defects that can stop or reduce the flow of sewage through sewer pipes.

If this occurs, sewage can back up in the sewer and drainage pipes and overflow from manholes into roads, gardens, or private land.

This could cause your facilities such as your toilet to overflow, or cause a pollution in a nearby river.

How do I know if I have a blockage?

If you can smell sewage around the manhole covers or find that water is very slow to drain from your toilet, then you may have a blockage. Another sign is water seeping from chambers in your garden or gully pots.

Don't delay in calling Drainforce as a blockage can sometimes lead to more serious issues such as a flooded house with damaged personal property.

As part of our blockage clearance service we offer CCTV surveys to enable us to determine the root cause of the blockage and to provide a no obligation quote for you.

Which drains am I responsible for?

The pipes highlighted red in the picture are owned by the Water Board and are their responsibility. Pipes that drain your own home, but lay outside of your boundary, and pipes serving both you and your neighbours, are probably the responsibility of the water board.

If we are on site and determine that the issue belongs to the water board, you will not be charged and we can hand it over for you.

We understand you may not be able to determine where the blockage is, so if you are unsure please contact us immediately for help.
